Arnold Bakker, PhD

Arnold Bakker is a professor and chair of Work and Organizational Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands. He is also secretary general of the Alliance for Organizational Psychology, a fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, and an adjunct professor at Lingnan University, Hong Kong. Previously, he was professor of positive organizational behaviour at Utrecht University and president of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (2009–2013).

His research focuses on positive organizational phenomena such as work engagement, flow, and happiness at work, with an emphasis on the processes driving job performance, including the crossover of work-related emotions. He has developed tools like the Job Demands–Resources monitor, the Happiness Indicator, and the Engagement App.

Professor Bakker’s work has appeared in leading journals, including American Psychologist, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Organizational Behavior. He is also the series editor of Current Issues in Work and Organizational Psychology (Psychology Press) and Advances in Positive Organizational Psychology (Emerald).
